Daniel Sell (Dal) wins League MVP!

NEW YORK -- The Dallas Cowboys' QB was a landslide winner Friday in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. Sell won the MVP award by amassing season totals of 242/396, 3609 yds, 30 TD.

"I really accept this award on behalf of the team and the organization because there is no way I would have accomplished this much without everyone creating a winning environment," Sell said after receiving the award.

William Reilly (Car) wins Playoff MVP!

NEW YORK -- The Carolina Panthers' WR took home the 1999 Playoff MVP award today. Reilly won the award by amassing playoff totals of 16 rec, 270 yds, 3 TD.

Bertram Lopez (Car) wins Defensive Player of the Year!

NEW YORK -- In his own view, Bertram Lopez put together his best professional season in 1999. How appropriate, then, that he is The Associated Press 1999 Defensive Player of the Year.

The versatile Lopez had 145 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 interceptions, and 6 forced fumbles with 0 defensive touchdowns, and was a key to the Panthers' turnaround on defense. His role on the defense earned Lopez a majority of votes Tuesday from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league.

NEW YORK -- Anxious all week, Derek Evans was finally catching some sleep at home in Charlotte, N.C., when he found out just how serious the San Diego Chargers were about acquiring him.

The free-agent signing period had just begun, and Evans's agent called to tell him that the Chargers head coach was in town. Soon, Evans was meeting him at an executive airport.

Now, Evans is being fitted for a Chargers uniform.

One of the league's top Cs and top free-agent prize agreed Friday to a 3 year contract worth $8,008,466.

"It's one thing to play football in this league and make a living, but it's a totally different thing to come to a place with a rich tradition like the Chargers," Evans said.

NEW YORK -- David Gooden, one of the league's top DEs and top free-agent prize agreed to a 3 year contract worth $8,724,542 to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jackie Corbitt (Jac) goes #1 overall!

NEW YORK -- The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Jackie Corbitt #1 overall in the 1999 draft. The 6' 0" RB fits the team's needs perfectly. Said Jaguars general manager: "It's up to us to develop him and get good players around him."

"The great thing about the game of football is, it's a team game," Corbitt said on a conference call. "I'm just going to be one piece of the puzzle."
